New Year, new office

With the New Year approaching, many companies are excited to hit the ground running; to make 2013 their best year yet. As the economy starts to show improvement, business owners are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and are reinvesting into their growing businesses more than ever. If you’re looking to make 2013 a year of improvement, here are just a few things you may want to consider:

New Look – Just like looking your best helps you to feel your best in life, keeping a fresh and styled office can help keep office morale up. Swapping out board whiteboards for new glassboards, bulky old office printers for laser printers, and maybe even a fresh coat of paint can help turn an office completely around. Any good business owner knows that your employees need all the right tools in order to succeed, so make sure the office is stocked with new pens, staplers, and office supplies.

New Attitudes – The New Year brings all kinds of resolutions; to be in better shape, to be more productive, or maybe to get that promotion you’ve been working towards all year. Whatever your employees’ resolutions are, now is the time to take the New Year enthusiasm and use it to benefit your company and employees. Maybe you will ask each employee to think of ways they can work better, smarter, more efficient, or how they can communicate with one another better. Ask them to make team goals and personal goals and you can track their progress on your new glass markers and board. If the majority of your employees have started a weight loss goal for 2013, make it a company challenge, where they can participate, motivate each other, and work together. A healthy office is a productive office; nutrition and health have long been linked to mental acuity and better energy levels.

Incentivize – It’s a new year, and if you want to make it your company’s best, you’ll have to reward for the best behavior. Set achievable goals for your staff and create reviews every 60 to 90 days. If they are going on the right track, show them exactly how to get better. Start a mentorship program if you have newer, less experienced employees on board. If you budget is still a bit tight for 2013, incentivize with more causal days, work parties and additional sick and vacation days. If you want the best company, hire the best people, and make sure to treat them that way.
